Not one but two moose have been spotted in a small community in Tay Township, Ont. The town has confirmed that the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) is aware of two moose that have been hanging out in Victoria Harbour lately. The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board posted to their social media that one of the moose was seen out in the school yard at St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School in Victoria Harbour. “Don’t worry - all students are safe and closely supervised while this impressive neighbour is admired from a distance!” the school board states in the post. If you encounter the moose, the MNR advises people to give them plenty of space to leave the area. While moose can appear to be friendly, the MNR strongly discourages the public to approach the moose as they can be very dangerous. The town also warns that considering it’s fall breeding season, bull moose—males—tend to be especially aggressive and easily agitated around this time of year. “Do not approach or reach out to touch a moose,” the ministry says. “Do not place yourself in proximity of a moose for social media.” The MNR says you should also refrain from feeding the moose, as it can do more harm than good. Finally, the ministry encourages the public to enjoy the moose and wildlife, in general, at a distance and leave them be in their natural habitat.
