Police say reports of a man carrying a handgun in Abbotsford led to the seizure of two airsoft guns and a violation ticket for open liquor on Saturday night. The Abbotsford Police Department said they received the weapons call and sent officers to the 3100 block of Station Road at around 7:35 p.m. Responding officers soon found the reported man nearby, around Fraser Highway and 273rd Street, police say. Officers found one airsoft gun tucked into his waistband and another inside a briefcase he was carrying. Police say both were seized and he was given a violation ticket for open liquor. In a statement posted online, the Abbotsford Police Department says airsoft guns should never be displayed or carried in public. “Many airsoft guns are designed to closely resemble real firearms, making it extremely difficult for both the public and responding officers to tell the difference,” the statement reads. “When officers respond to reports of a firearm, they must treat it (as) real until they can safely take possession of it and determine otherwise. Reports of someone carrying what appears to be a gun in public often result in a significant police response to ensure public safety.”
