One man is now facing charges after he was found by police in a peculiar situation. Barrie Police say on Thursday, officers responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver in the area of Peel Street and Rose Street. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle with its engine running and a man asleep in the driver’s seat. The officers repeatedly knocked on the driver-side window before the man eventually awoke and opened the door. Police say officers could smell a strong odour of alcohol from the vehicle and noticed the car was still in drive. The man was instructed by police to shift the vehicle into park and turn the engine off. The driver was then arrested and taken to police headquarters, where he was breath tested. Barrie Police say the man’s tests confirmed he was two and a half times over the legal limit. A 35-year-old Essa Township man is now facing charges of impaired operation and impaired over 80. Police say his licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven.
