A woman was the victim of a careless hit and run Sunday night. The woman was found on the side of the road near Pine Valley Drive and Major MacKenzie Drive at around 2 p.m. Tuesday. York Regional Police arrived and found the woman’s body in the forested area nearby. York Region’s Major Collision Investigation Unit believe the woman got off a bus at the northeast corner of Major Mackenzie Drive and Pine Valley Drive Sunday at around 8:30 p.m. Police say she was walking northbound on Pine Valley Drive with a suitcase, on her way to work as a live-in caregiver, when she was struck by a northbound vehicle. The victim has been identified as a 60-year-old woman from Richmond Hill. The driver fled the scene, and police indicate the driver would have known they had struck someone or something. Investigators wish to advise the public, that anyone who helps a suspect by concealing, repairing or altering a vehicle avoid detection may be committing a criminal offence and could face charges. This includes anyone who performs or arranges body work, paint work or mechanical repairs intended to conceal damage caused in this collision. The driver is urged to seek legal advice and turn themself in. Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dash-camera footage from the area between approximately 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday, to come forward.
