Amber Alerts get headlines, but the CEO of the Missing Children’s Society of Canada wants us to know those incidents are just a tiny fraction of missing children’s cases in Canada. Last year across Canada there were five amber alerts, out of more than 34,000 missing children’s cases. “When a child is not in a safe place, they’re missing from a safe place, life changes, but thankfully most of the missing children cases will be resolved in less than a week,” Amanda Pick told CTV News. May 25 is International Missing Children’s Day and Pick is using the occasion to spread the word about her organization’s internet-based app — RESCU.MCSC.CA — that helps get the word out about children who have gone missing. “It’s everybody’s responsibility to protect children and knowing that we can do something and change the life of a child just by having our device ready and registering, that’s an incredible opportunity,” Pick said.
