Warm, humid conditions and the risk of scattered thunderstorms are expected across southwestern Ontario on Wednesday before a cold front brings drier and more comfortable weather later this week. CTV News London meteorologist Julie Atchison said temperatures reached 24 C in London on Wednesday afternoon but felt closer to 33 C because of the high humidity. “There’s lots of moisture to tap into,” Atchison said, noting the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms would continue through the afternoon. She said some storms could produce between 10 and 20 mm of rainfall, with an area of rain expected to move into London during the early afternoon hours. “As we push toward 2 o’clock, expect some heavier pockets of rain in the city,” Atchison said. The rain is developing well ahead of a slow-moving cold front that is expected to cross the region on Thursday. While showers and thunderstorms are forecast to ease by Wednesday evening, the humid conditions are expected to persist overnight. Temperatures are forecast to fall to between 15 C and 17 C overnight, while communities along the Lake Erie shoreline could remain closer to 19 C or 20 C. Atchison said the passage of the cold front on Thursday will bring a noticeable drop in humidity. “We’ve got some sunshine on the way. Looking good for Thursday, a mix of sun and cloud,” she said. The improved weather is expected to continue into the weekend, with sunny skies and daytime highs ranging from 23 C to 26 C through Saturday. Friday is expected to be the pick of the week, with Atchison describing conditions as “absolutely beautiful.” The next chance of rain is forecast for Saturday night, when the probability of showers is expected to increase to about 40 per cent following a largely sunny day.
