Juno-winning rock musician Matt Mays is getting accustomed to the agricultural lifestyle, and it has nothing to do with his appearance at the Wildhorse Saloon during Stampede week. “During COVID, we decided to take a wild swing on a different lifestyle, looking at places, and we saw this beautiful refurbished old hay barn, and we decided to make it into something,” Mays told CTV News. The Nova Scotia-raised singer/songwriter and guitarist created the Lost Mile Barn in Ontario’s Brant County, west of Hamilton. “We have alpacas and goats and chickens and a dog and a cat,” said Mays of the enterprise, which includes an Airbnb, recording studio, bar and performance stage. “We’ve had a lot of great bands through—Greg (Keelor) from Blue Rodeo, the Sadies,” said Mays. Mays spoke with CTV about some of his hits—Cocaine Cowgirl, Tall Trees, City of Lakes—many of which he’ll perform at the Wildhorse Saloon on Friday, July 10.
