Pride celebrations are underway in Calgary in advance of the parade on Sunday. The neighbourhood of Inglewood is hosting activities to run all weekend. The Dyke and Trans March goes midday Saturday from The Confluence in Inglewood, followed by an all-ages celebration. There are events at Cold Garden, High Line Brewing and ContainR Park on Saturday, and a Black Pride Party on Sunday. Many shops, markets and restaurants will also hold their own events. “The whole point of Pride is taking it back to the streets,” said Black Pride Calgary’s Daphne Dike-Hart. “This week, we’re taking it back to make sure people come and share in queer joy together. “One of the things we do is to make sure we have everyone who supports Black and queer culture in the room with us – so come and share whether you’re Black or not, whatever your race, whatever your background – as long as you support and love Black queer folks, you’re welcome to come and share in our joy, eat our food – there’s going to be free barbecue for the first 100 people who come to the festival so make sure you come on time. “And just make sure you have fun,” Dike-Hart added, “because we want to make sure people are connecting with queer joy. “That’s the whole point of this.” For more details of all the events, go here.
