An Alberta-based non-profit is unveiling a new logo inspired by Blackfoot culture as part of a larger rebrand. Wood’s Homes was gifted the Blackfoot name “Ispoomstoyis” two years ago--translated as a home or dwelling that offers help and support. The new logo now represents the organization’s commitment to allyship, building relationships, learning and reconciliation with Indigenous communities. Wood’s Homes has a housing hub and service in Lethbridge providing safe havens for at-risk young people experiencing homelessness. “The tipi doors are open because we’re open to looking at different paradigms and different worldviews with families and children that we work with,” said Devena First Rider, the Indigenous Wellness Coordinator at Wood’s Homes. “Not just specifically with Indigenous (community members), but others --and we welcome that to build that relationship and connection to have a better community.”
