One person has been charged in connection with fires at El Cortez Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Bar earlier this year. A 29-year-old man is charged with two counts of arson in connection with the fires. Emergency crews were called to the restaurant on Gateway Boulevard north of Whyte Avenue on June 25 by Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. In September, police released surveillance video of a person of interest in the fires. The man has successfully been identified, and on Sept. 23, he was arrested and charged. Police say they aren’t looking for any other suspects.
