Edmonton police and fire services were up against each other Sunday for a friendly soccer match to raise money for charity. The event brought families together for a barbecue with children’s activities, mascots, police and fire vehicles and a performance by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Pipes and Drums. “We work together day in and day out,” said EPS Const. Bruce McGregor. “We support each other daily. But for the next 90 minutes, we’re going to play a very competitive game of soccer. We’re going to play for the badges that we represent and serve.” Sunday’s match marked the second year that EPS and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services held the event. “We’re here to compete, play, have fun, put on a good show for the fans, and at the end of it, it’s to give that money back to the community,” said McGregor. “That’s what we’re most proud of.” Funds raised will be dispersed to Wings of Providence, the Edmonton Firefighters Burn Treatment Society, and Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
