Britannia Pool in East Vancouver was closed Saturday and is expected to remain so until further notice. The community centre’s website said the closure came after an “unexpected failure of the pool basin tiles” rendered the pool unsafe. The extent of the damage and timeline for repair have not yet been determined. “We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we complete this necessary maintenance,” the update from the community centre said. Last month, a swim club said its members were blindsided when they were told the pool would be closed from November of 2026 until September of 2027 for repairs and maintenance. Soon after, the city said the closure would be pushed back until January of 2027.
