A section of 97 Street just north of Jasper Avenue has reopened after it was closed to install the overhead steel structure for the new Chinatown Gate. The roadway between Jasper Avenue and Okîsikow Way (101A Avenue) will be fully open to traffic until Sept. 15 where it will then close overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Sept. 28 while crews install scaffolding and hoarding. During the closure, drivers are encouraged to detour using 100 Street or 95 Street via Jasper Avenue or 103A Avenue. Access to the Canada Place parkade on the west side of 97 Street will be maintained as well as the portion of 97 Street between 102A Avenue and Okîsikow Way. Sidewalks on 97 Street will be accessible to pedestrians during the closure. After the two weeks of overnight closures, one northbound lane on 97 Street will be closed during the day during off-peak hours from Sept. 29 to Oct. 19 for material delivery. Bus route 900X will be detoured from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Sept. 15 to 28. A full list of closed and alternate stops can be found here. The former Chinatown Gate at 97 Street and 102 Avenue was removed in 2017 to accommodate LRT construction. Construction of the new gate began in March and is expected to wrap up in 2027.
