The intersection at 12 Avenue west of 111 Street reopened on Tuesday after a 10-week closure. The City of Edmonton and the design-build contractor Ledcor said in a statement that it marked a “major construction milestone” for the Capital Line South LRT extension project, which included drainage, utility road and track work. “Reconstruction of 12 Avenue west required careful planning, coordination and an incredible effort from our crews, particularly as we faced record-breaking torrential rainfall during construction,” Brad Mytko with Ledcor Group said in a statement on Tuesday. “Despite the challenging conditions, our team remained focused on safety, quality and innovation to keep the work moving, allowing us to deliver this important connection back to the community.” The Capital Line South LRT extension will provide additional travel options for those in southwest and south Edmonton communities. Similar work will begin in mid-August on 9 Avenue west of 111 Street, with construction expected to last about 10 weeks. Traffic will be detoured to the newly reopened 12 Avenue.
