This year, Simply Supper’s Lemonade Stand Day campaign raised more than $600,000 for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, the largest total since it began in 2014. Organizers say more than 700 stands across communities from Grande Prairie to Red Deer participated. “This is, without question, the biggest year Lemonade Stand Day has ever seen,” said the event’s founder Monita Chapman in a statement. “Every single stand, every cup poured, every Junior Lemon Squeezer who knocked on doors or set up a table; it all added up to something truly extraordinary. I am beyond proud of what this community has built together and for all the support we receive every year to make the lives of Stollery families easier in their hard moments.” Starting with just 30 stands 13 years ago, the fundraiser has grown into Canada’s largest single-day lemonade stand event, raising more than $3.7 million for patient and family-centred care at the Stollery Children’s hospital. Proceeds from this year’s campaign will fund NICView cameras for neonatal intensive care units across northern Alberta. The cameras give Stollery families a secure, live webcam feed of their babies anytime and from anywhere.
