A paddle ball tournament over the weekend raised funds for the Compassion House Foundation, an organization that provides affordable accommodations and support for women travelling to Edmonton for cancer treatment. Event organizer Donna Paez started the tournament after she had her own cancer scare over the summer and found that a lot of women she played paddle ball with were going through similar experiences. “It just seemed it was so prevalent in our paddle community,” Paez told CTV News Edmonton. There was also an auction with donations from the City of Edmonton. “It’s going to be something we’re going to do every year now. It turned out really great,” said Paez. “We’re hoping next year is going to be even better.” About 60 players participated in the tournament at the Paddle Zone. “We love paddle, and for the cancer survivors, it is a way to get exercise after chemo and to just be around a community or people that care,” said Paez.
