The Alberta Animal Rescue Society (AARCS) -- celebrated 20 years with its Mutts, Meows and Martinis Gala Saturday night. AARCS is a non-profit organization that provides a safe haven for homeless pets until they find a forever home. Saturday’s Halloween-themed party featured retro games and fortune tellers. There were five different costume categories with a cash prize. A number of items were up for grabs in an auction that also featured a number of Halloween-themed cakes. “We’ve got a cake crime scene auction where we’re auctioning off Halloween cakes, and one of those cakes, if you cut it open, will have a sprinkle inside, and you will win $1,500,” said Tanya Kaynes, the owner and operator of Menagerie Cakes. “I love AARCS because I love all that they do for animals across Alberta that need help, that need rescuing, that need new homes,” she added. “They do an amazing job!” The aim was to raise $5,000 for AARCS.
