U.S. health authorities on Friday declared the end of the nation’s largest recorded multi-state cyclosporiasis outbreak, after thousands fell ill from consuming contaminated iceberg lettuce. The outbreak sickened 12,883 people across 21 states, resulting in 570 hospitalizations and two deaths, according to latest data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC said the contaminated lettuce linked to the outbreak is no longer available in stores or restaurants and recent infections associated with the outbreak have declined significantly.
