A 16-year-old girl hit by a train in Regina over the Labour Day long weekend is receiving intensive care in Saskatoon at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital. According to the Regina Police Service (RPS), the incident happened Sunday at around 10 p.m. on the CN Rail tracks near Elphinstone Street and McKinley Avenue, police describing the girl’s injuries as “serious.” In an update posted via a fundraiser Wednesday, her family confirmed she suffered life changing injuries including the loss of three limbs. “This has been an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time for Bailey and for everyone who loves her. Right now, our family is doing everything we can to be there for her, support her, and make sure she knows she is never alone through this journey,” the update read. It continues on to say the girl, whose name is Bailey, is receiving care at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. “Bailey is a very loving, kind, and free-spirited young lady who loves spending time with her friends and family. She has an amazing relationship with her older brother and her four younger siblings,” her family said. “Bailey loves to laugh, be playful, and bring a positive energy wherever she goes. She has a beautiful spirit, and we know she would truly appreciate all the love, support, and well wishes she is receiving.” The post ended by acknowledging Bailey has a long road to recovery ahead, but that “she is surrounded by people who love her and are determined to support her every step of the way.” As of Thursday morning, the fundraiser had already surpassed $7,000. Police have said the incident is not considered criminal in nature, but added it was under investigation by RPS and CN Rail Police. With files from Daniel Reech
