Guelph Police have made an arrest in relation to an ongoing investigation into child sexual abuse and exploitation material. The service’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit began the investigation in May after receiving information from the National Centre for Missing and exploited Children about materials being shared to a social media site. According to police, the investigation led to an address in the city’s west end. A search warrant was executed at this address in June, where police seized several electronic devices. The suspect was in the United States at the time and was stopped crossing back into Canada. This led to police seizing the devices the suspect crossed back with. Following analysis of the devices, a 45-year-old Guelph man was arrested Thursday. He was charged with possessing child sexual abuse/exploitation material and making child sexual abuse/exploitation material available.
