Vancouver’s new St. Paul’s Hospital will have 90 secure acute and tertiary mental health beds, according to Providence Health Care. The organization said the beds will serve those who are in need of immediate care during a mental health crisis, as well as patients with complex health needs. The medical center will also include other mental health and substance use care spaces, such as secure areas within the Emergency Department, as well as specialized treatment, recovery, and support services. The non-profit said these spaces will serve different clinical purposes and aren’t classified as inpatient mental health beds. The hospital, located in Vancouver’s False Creek Flats, is expected to open next year and will be double the size of the downtown location.
