One of the four teenagers killed in a crash on a Manitoba highway Sunday is being remembered as a loving person who was about to begin her life. Chloe Vermette, 18, was one of four victims of a fatal crash on Highway 8 near Winnipeg Beach on Sunday. “Chloe was amazing,” said Hayley MacKay, a close friend of Vermette’s family, on Wednesday. “She had a great personality; she glowed in every room that she walked into.” The crash also killed Maya Borsa, 18, from Sandy Hook, along with an 18-year-old man from Gimli and a 17-year-old boy from Ear Falls, Ont. According to RCMP, a vehicle travelling west on Highway 229 was struck by a southbound van while crossing Highway 8. All four occupants in the westbound vehicle died at the scene. The four occupants in the van suffered minor injuries and were taken to a Winnipeg hospital for treatment. Vermette had recently graduated from high school, and MacKay said she was trying to live her life and have fun with friends before deciding on her next steps. MacKay said Vermette loved vehicles, especially Corvettes, and her family was involved in dirt track racing. “She was just a great overall person,” she said. “She loved her family so much.” MacKay said she and the Vermette family are still in shock following the crash. MacKay launched a GoFundMe to assist the family with expenses and has since raised more than $4,000 as of Wednesday. “It was an unexpected accident, and I wanted to make sure that the family knew that they were covered for anything that they have to pay out of pocket,” MacKay said.
