The London Police Service has charged a man in connection with a London Hydro data breach. On June 19, police received a report from London Hydro about a suspected compromise of its customer information. Investigators said between June 5 and June 17, a suspect accessed customer accounts unauthorized, gaining customer information. The LPS executed a search warrant a home on Aug. 13, part of investigation efforts. Several devices were seized and examined. Police said they found evidence that linked the suspect to the data breach. A 40-year-old man of London has been charged with fraudulently obtaining any computer service and mischief over $5,000. “We are grateful to the London Police Service for its collaboration and diligent work in investigating this incident,” said Ysni Semsedini, CEO of London Hydro. “Over the past several months, our teams have worked closely to understand what occurred and to help protect our customers and their information. Given the complexity of cases like this, charges are not commonly laid. Today’s announcement speaks to the expertise, skill and dedication of our police partners.”
