Fire ripped through an east London business overnight gutting the interior of the store and causing smoke damage to an adjoining grocery store. Just before 3 a.m. first responders were called to 1100 Commissioners Road East for reports of black smoke in the area. When they arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the roof of the plaza and there was high heat. The scene of the fire was the Jannah Boutique which is advertised as a family-owned boutique in London, specializing in Islamic specialties, home needs, unique gifts, and baby outfits. Fire inspectors were on scene Monday morning sorting through the rubble and beginning cleanup. The neighbouring Grocery and Sweet Bazaar had smoke damage and a lot of water inside. The owners were on scene Monday morning with their insurance company sorting through what is damaged. The owners of the business -which features Indian and South Asian groceries – were devastated as holidays are typically their busiest days of the year. No one was injured in the fire.
