Province grants London $11.2M for infrastructure after city surpasses housing benchmark

The City of London will receive Just over $11.2 million through the third round of Ontario’s Building Faster Fund after achieving 90 per cent of its provincially assigned housing target for 2025.

According to the province, London recorded 4,224 housing starts in 2025, exceeding the threshold required to qualify for funding. Municipalities must achieve at least 80 per cent of their provincially designated housing targets to receive support through the program.

The Building Faster Fund, announced in August 2023, is a three-year program worth up to $1.2 billion designed to encourage municipalities to increase housing construction. Funding is intended to support infrastructure projects needed to accommodate new housing and population growth.

London Mayor Josh Morgan said the funding will help address infrastructure needs associated with the city’s rapid growth.

“London is one of the fastest-growing communities in Ontario, and this funding is an important investment in the infrastructure needed to create complete communities where people can live, work, learn and succeed,” Morgan said.

Morgan added that housing construction depends on infrastructure, planning and collaboration among municipal partners, skilled trades and businesses involved in development.

Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP and Ontario Minister of Municipal Affairs Rob Flack, said the funding will help support infrastructure projects tied to future community growth.

“Across the province, there is a need for more housing of all types,” Flack said in a statement. “This funding will be used to support critical infrastructure projects that will enable further community growth.”

The province said the funding can be used to support infrastructure required for new housing and growing communities. Specific projects to be funded in London were not identified in the announcement.
