Elgin County OPP officers confirm three people have died after a crash on Highway 401 near London. The fatal crash happened on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 4:03 p.m. in the Township of Southwold. OPP, Medavie EMS Elgin and local fire services responded to the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Mill Road for a report of a multi-vehicle collision. Police say initial information indicated traffic had slowed due to an earlier collision in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Colonel Talbot Road in Middlesex County. Investigators have determined that there were three individuals inside a sedan that was struck from behind by the commercial vehicle, after traffic had slowed due to an earlier collision. The identities of the three victims have not been confirmed. The investigation is continuing, and updates will be provided as they become available.
