The body of a 95-year-old man was found outside his seniors’ residence in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough early Sunday morning. Emergency services received a 911 call at 3:10 a.m. about an unconscious person near the Résidence Élogia on Sherbrooke Street East. An employee from the complex, operated by Groupe Mauricie, was patrolling around the perimeter of the building when the man’s body was discovered. Paramedics confirmed the death on site, and Montreal police (SPVM) Spokesperson Florence Stafford said that the body did not show signs of violence. The case has been transferred to the Quebec Coroner’s Office, which affirmed that Coroner Geneviève Pépin “has been appointed to conduct an inquest to establish the causes and circumstances surrounding the death.” “Upon completion of her inquest, if she deems it appropriate, the coroner may also make recommendations aimed at protecting human life and preventing deaths in similar circumstances,” the office said.
