Residents across southwestern Ontario can look forward to another stretch of sunny and seasonably mild weather heading into the weekend, according to meteorologist Gary Archibald. Archibald said a ridge of high pressure has kept conditions quiet and clear across much of eastern North America in recent days, helping to set the stage for favourable weather through at least Sunday. “Just like last weekend, I’m anticipating a beautiful fair-weather weekend,” Archibald said. “Saturday and Sunday look good.” Friday’s high is expected to reach 16 C, about four degrees above the seasonal average, while overnight temperatures are forecast to dip to around 4 C under mainly clear skies. Archibald said any cloud cover seen over the past several days has largely been limited to fair-weather clouds, a trend that is expected to continue across the lower Great Lakes region. “It bodes well for a great-looking weekend,” he said. Skies are expected to remain clear Friday evening, with temperatures falling to about 8 C by 8 p.m., 6 C by 10 p.m. and 4 C around midnight. Light easterly winds of 10 km/h or less are also forecast. Looking ahead, Archibald said sunshine and temperatures in the upper teens are expected to continue through the weekend and into Monday in London and much of southwestern Ontario. A cooler pattern is forecast to arrive by the middle of next week, with daytime highs settling into the lower teens. There is also the possibility of showers toward the end of the work week. “A similar-looking forecast for the Midwest as well,” Archibald said. “Sunny for Saturday and then clouds moving in Monday, with a possible passing shower.” Despite the cooler temperatures expected next week, conditions will remain typical for late October, with readings near seasonal norms.
