Montreal police (SPVM) say four people were arrested after two patrol officers were assaulted during an intervention in the city’s Villeray—Saint-Michel—Parc-Extension borough earlier this week. One of the accused also allegedly tried to disarm the officers during the intervention, which happened shortly before 2 a.m. near the corner of Mistral Street and Christophe-Colomb Avenue. Police intervened when they saw two men committing an alleged violation of the Highway Safety Code. “During the intervention, the individual allegedly resisted the officers and committed acts that may constitute criminal offences against police officers,” said Florence Stafford, a Montreal police spokesperson. Two 25-year-old men were arrested and each face charges of obstructing a police officer and assaulting a police officer. One of them faces an additional charge of seizing or attempting to seize a weapon in possession of a police officer. The officers’ injuries were minor and not life-threatening. Both men appeared in court later that day to face the charges. Montreal police could not confirm whether or not they remain in custody. Two women, aged 25 and 23, were also arrested during the intervention and were released from custody. They could face charges of obstructing a police officer and assaulting a police officer. “The investigation will determine if they are accused or not of those charges,” Stafford said.
