Ontario Provincial Police are renewing their request for any information on the death of Kathleen MacVicar, who disappeared 25 years ago in Trenton, Ont. MacVicar was 19 years old when she moved from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia in 2001. Police say MacVicar was last seen leaving a friend’s house on June 13, 2001, at approximately 10 p.m., walking towards CFB Trenton, where she was living with relatives. “Two days later, her body was discovered in a wooded area on the base near Curtis Road. She had sustained multiple stab wounds,” the OPP said in a media release. “Several months after her death, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was asked to assist the then-Quinte West Police Service with the investigation.” Police say the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch continues to “actively pursue all investigative leads” to determine what happened to MacVicar. “I have missed her for 25 years and watching who she would have become. I can’t believe the person who did this has got to live 25 years,” Colleen MacVicar, Kathleen’s mother, said in a statement. “I want my daughter back. I want those years back. I want her never to be in fear.” On Wednesday, the OPP released a new “Unsolved” video retracing MacVicar’s last steps before she disappeared. In the video, OPP Det. Sgt. Crystal Moore said MacVicar made a phone call while at her friend’s house on June 13, 2001, and “she did not share with her friend who she placed a call to.” Moore said the OPP would like to know who the phone call to and who that person was. “I would say to people who maybe know something or think something or, I don’t know, have an inkling I guess – don’t let people suffer like this,” Colleen MacVicar said in the video. “Don’t let people suffer like this. Don’t let people wonder every day or be afraid every day. It’s not worth what secret you’re holding. Twenty-five years is a long time. It’s a lifetime, more than hers.” Police say investigators remain hopeful that advancements in DNA technology and the release of the new Unsolved video will generate additional information and “provide answers for her family.” “Advancements in DNA technology continue to provide new opportunities in historical investigations, and we remain committed to leveraging every available tool to identify the person responsible for Kathleen’s murder,” Det. Insp. Jennifer Patton said. “The OPP would like nothing more than to solve this case and bring resolution to Kathleen’s family.” A $75,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her death.
