Quebec provincial police (SQ) intercepted a speeding vehicle travelling at more than twice the speed limit early Thursday morning on Highway 15 northbound. According to the SQ, the driver, a 26-year-old man, was clocked at 184 km/h in a construction zone in Boisbriand where the speed limit is 80 km/h. The driver was issued a $1,918 ticket and 24 demerit points. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days. Police said the driver may have been impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident and provided a breath sample. Charges could be laid later in connection with the incident. The Sûreté du Québec reminds motorists that speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads.
