The identities of health-care professionals were stolen, and some of their administrative records were accessed without authorization to misappropriate public funds, the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) said on Wednesday. The RAMQ said it discovered on July 30 that administrative records had been accessed without authorization, while adding that its systems had “not been compromised.” “As soon as these incidents were detected, we immediately implemented the measures set out in our incident management protocol to secure these records and carry out a thorough analysis of the events,” the RAMQ explained in a press release. It stated that citizens’ health insurance records are not affected and were never targeted by the scheme. The RAMQ contacted the Sûreté du Québec on the very day the situation was identified, as these are potentially criminal acts. The healthcare professionals concerned were also informed, as were all professionals with a file held by the RAMQ, the organization said. “We remain extremely vigilant regarding any unusual activity,” the organization stated.
