Ontario Provincial Police say a 73-year-old resident of Sturgeon Falls has died following a crash between a mobility scooter and a pickup truck on Highway 17 on Saturday. Police said emergency crews, including OPP, West Nipissing Fire and Emergency Service, and District of Nipissing Paramedic Services, responded to the scene near Landfill Site Road at about 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 1. Investigation underway “The operator of the mobility scooter, a 73-year-old resident of Sturgeon Falls, was transported to hospital and later pronounced deceased,” police said in a news release Sunday. Road closure “Highway 17 was closed for approximately five hours while investigators examined the scene and has since reopened,” said OPP. Provincial police’s traffic incident management and enforcement assisted the local detachment with the investigation. Appeal for witnesses “The investigation remains ongoing,” said police. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
