A 36-year-old North Bay man has been charged with making death threats and causing extensive damage to his rental unit that has endangered the structural integrity of the building. Police said in a news release Aug. 25 that the tenant was arrested after officers were alerted to the property damage “as well as threats to harm the property owner and cause further damage to the unit and adjacent residential units.” Police received the initial report Aug. 21 regarding problems at the building, located on Main Street East. Significant damage to the building “As a result of the investigation, officers determined that the residence had sustained significant damage that appeared to compromise the structural integrity of the building,” police said in the release. “The damage is estimated at approximately $90,000.” Insp. Scott McFarlane said in the release that police conducted “a thorough investigation” before making the arrest. Officers “took appropriate steps in response to the significant damage sustained to the property and threats made against the property owner,” McFarlane said. “Incidents like this undermine community safety and can have a lasting impact on neighbours and property owners.” The North Bay man has been charged with making death threats, threats to damage property and intentionally damaging his rental property. The accused was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
