The victim of a serious assault earlier this week at Terry Fox Place in Sault Ste. Marie has died, police announced Friday. As a result, attempted murder charges against an 82-year-old man have been upgraded to first-degree murder. Police initially responded to the call at 8:40 a.m. Sept. 21 after a report came in about someone yelling for help inside a residence. “Upon arrival to the unit, officers located two injured people,” police said in a news release earlier this week. “One victim had sustained life-threatening physical injuries and the other person, identified as the accused, had serious physical injuries. Both people were transported to hospital.” It emerged that one suspect seriously injured the victim, then seriously injured themselves. “The victim and accused are known to one another,” police said at the time. The victim has since died, prompting the murder charges, which were laid Sept. 24. The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing, police said Friday.
