Drivers in Regina were greeted with a two-day traffic blitz this week, as part of an annual program brought to different Saskatchewan communities throughout the year. The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, aimed at keeping roads safer, took place on Sep. 22 and 23. Several traffic stop checks were conducted at locations throughout Regina, with enforcement efforts focused on speeding, unregistered vehicles, proper use of car seats, distracted driving, seatbelt violations and impaired driving. Over the two-day program, here’s how many tickets were handed out: Traffic tickets Speeding: 101 Seat belt violations: 24 Failure to stop at a stop sign or light: 14 Suspended drivers: 3 Vehicle equipment regulations: 13 Distracted driving: 31 There were also 69 tickets given for other violations under the Traffic Safety Act Commercial Vehicle Safety Vehicle inspections: 47 Vehicles taken out of service: 19 There were also 98 vehicle defects, as noted by Saskatchewan Highway Patrol and SGI vehicle standards and inspections. During the blitz, there were 205 mandatory alcohol screening tests with no impaired drivers, three car seat inspections, five vehicle impounds, one criminal code investigation and two arrests on warrants. A total of 281 infractions and 193 warnings were noted. Hosted by the Regina Police Service and SGI, this week’s event also saw officers with the Regina Police Service Traffic Safety Unit, Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan, Highway Patrol, RCMP, Wascana Community Safety, CP Rail, CN Rail, SGI, as well as officers from the Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Estevan and Prince Albert police services.
