In an update early Wednesday morning, Greater Sudbury Hydro said a power outage that affected many parts of the city beginning Tuesday evening was related to the Clarabelle Transformer Station. Power was restored to most areas by 2 a.m. “The outage was related to a power issue at the Clarabelle Transformer Station,” the update said. “If you are a Hydro One customer and are still experiencing an outage, please refer to Hydro One’s outage map for the latest updates. Thank you for your patience while service was restored.” The Sudbury utility and Hydro One responded to the power outage that began shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, affecting nearly 14,000 customers across multiple areas in and around the City of Greater Sudbury. Greater Sudbury Hydro issued a news release just before 9 p.m. advising it was aware of a power outage affecting approximately 6,000 customers in the New Sudbury area. The local utility also noted the issue is impacting Hydro One’s system, and that the two companies are in communication with each other. Hydro One’s outage map, meanwhile, reports 7,956 of its customers in the area are without power. Crews dispatched to investigate “Our crews are heading out to investigate and are working to restore power where possible,” Greater Sudbury Hydro said in its release. The utility also appealed to customers for patience as the restoration effort gets underway. “Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.” Outage larger than initially reported Hydro One’s outage map listed the cause of the disruption as still pending classification, with crews working in the area. Social media reports also indicated the outage is more widespread in the city than just New Sudbury. CTV News has confirmed customers in the Flour Mill, Donovan and Valley East were still experiencing outages as of 9:30 p.m. Greater Sudbury Utilities has more provided an estimate as to when power will be restored. Hydro One’s outage map suggests power may be restored by 11:45 p.m., however it still indicates the cause as undetermined.
