A driver observed using a cellphone while driving on Highway 417 is facing their third distracted driving charge in 18 months. Ontario Provincial Police say an officer stopped a driver for distracted driving on Hwy. 417 near Moodie Drive on Thursday. “This is the third time in a year and a half that this driver has been stopped for using their cellphone while driving,” OPP Const. Michael Fathi said on X. “If convicted of all three charges, this driver could face higher fines and a longer suspension.” The penalty for a single conviction for distracted driving is a $615 fine, three demerit points and a three-day suspension.
