A pedestrian was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 417 near Riverside Drive on Thursday afternoon, Ottawa first responders say. “We are currently at the scene at a serious collision involving a pedestrian, Highway 417 eastbound just past Vanier,” OPP Const. Michael Fathi said in a video address on Facebook. On CFRA 580’s Ottawa Now with Kristy Cameron, Fathi said after the pedestrian being struck caused a secondary collision to occur. Ottawa paramedics spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps said paramedics attended the scene of multiple minor collisions. Deschamps said the pedestrian who was struck was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Another person was assessed and released at the scene. Fathi says eastbound lanes were closed on the highway near Riverside Drive which caused traffic to build up, but the lanes have since reopened.
