People are being advised not to swim at seven Lake Huron beaches. Testing released Thursday shows that five Huron County beaches tested over the acceptable limit for E.coli. Goderich’s Main Beach, Goderich Rotary Cove, Amberley Beach, Hay Township Beach, and Pavilion Road Beach all tested over E.coli limits, says Huron Perth Public Health. Goderich’s Main Beach has been unsafe for swimming due to excessive bacteria in the water since last week. Testing from the Grey Bruce Health Unit shows higher than acceptable limits of E.coli for Station Beach in Kincardine, and Point Clark Beach in Goderich. After testing over earlier this week, Grand Bend’s North Beach is now back within acceptable limits. Re-testing for all the beaches that failed testing is happening Thursday or Friday, with results expected no later than Saturday. Health officials say while swimmers are being advised not to swim along the posted beaches, a good rule of thumb is if you cannot see your feet if you are waist deep in the water, then it is likely not safe water to swim in. Possible outcomes from ingesting the unhealthy water could be diarrhea, and/or infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
