One person is being treated for injuries after a stabbing that prompted a shelter in place to be issued for Deep River, Ont. Facilities in the Ottawa Valley town remain closed and classes are cancelled at schools as the shelter in place remains in effect on Thursday. Ontario Provincial Police say officers responded to a “serious incident” in the area of McElligott Drive at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One person was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. There was no update on their condition on Thursday. The Deep River Police said officers were working to locate the suspect involved in the stabbing. “As a precaution, residents are urged to shelter in place, remain indoors, and ensure all doors and windows are locked,” the OPP said in a media release. “Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant, avoid the area, and report any suspicious activity to police immediately. Residents should expect to see an increased police presence as officers continue investigative activities.” Ontario Provincial Police are assisting the Deep River Police Service with the investigation. The Mackenzie Community School will be closed today to students and staff. The Renfrew County Catholic District School Board says St. Marty’s OLGC School is also closed today. The Royal Canadian Legion in Deep River said the lunch and patio BBQ is cancelled today. Police say further updates will be provided as they become available. Deep River is located about 190 kilometres northwest of downtown Ottawa.
