Teen driver, 2 passengers injured after crashing car into tree in Carp

Ottawa police say a 17-year-old driver is in life-threatening condition after crashing his car Thursday night in the city’s rural west end.

The vehicle struck a tree on Old Carp Road west of Old Second Line Road just after 9:30 p.m.

Ottawa Paramedic Service public information officer Marc-Antoine Deschamps told CTV News Ottawa that all three occupants were male teens. The driver had critical injuries, one passenger suffered serious injuries, while the other passenger had minor injuries.

None of the injuries was considered life-threatening at the time, Deschamps said.

In an update Friday afternoon, however, Ottawa police said the driver’s injuries were now considered life-threatening. The passenger who had sustained minor injuries has also since been released from the hospital, police said.

Ottawa Fire Services say firefighters were called by Ottawa police to the scene to aid with extricating two people who were trapped in the vehicle, one of whom was the driver.

Both people were safely removed from the vehicle by 10:06 p.m., a news release said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the collision, or who may have cameras on their property or home that may have captured the vehicle at or around the time of the incident, to come forward.
