Flipped truck in Abbotsford results in apprehending of alleged truck thief: police

Police in Abbotsford say they are recommending charges against a 35-year-old man who allegedly stole a truck and flipped it before attempting to run from police.

In a post on X, the Abbotsford Police Department says officers were “in the right place at the right time” on Thursday, just after 10 a.m., as they saw a truck flip on its side while driving on South Fraser Way near McDougall Avenue.

Police say these officers went to “check on the well-being of the occupant and conduct traffic control,” but the “man jumped out of the truck and threw himself down an embankment, in an attempt to run away.”

These officers then learned the truck had been stolen from Maple Ridge, according to police.

Police say a search was conducted with the assistance of a “service dog and its handler.” This resulted in the 35-year-old man, who they add was known to police, being found inside a truck parked nearby and “apprehended.”

Abbotsford police say they’re recommending “numerous charges.”
