University of Regina Rams rookie Carter Ashman almost single-handedly defeated the University of Alberta Golden Bears when the teams met under the Mosaic Stadium lights Thursday night. The first-year running back had a school rookie record 214 rushing yards as the Rams steamrolled the Golden Bears 43-17. The Rams snapped a three-game losing streak on the back of Ashman’s two touchdowns, with the rookie setting a new school record with the most rushing yards by a first-year running back - 551 and counting. Ashman wasn’t the only Rams running back to stand out Thursday. Kaiden Banfield added 103 yards on just 10 carries, as the Rams ran for a combined 317 yards, good for the second most in a game in school history. The Rams defence also had a game to remember, blocking two punts and forcing six turnovers. The 3-3 Rams’ next game is Friday, Oct. 23, when they host UBC. The action kicks off at 7:00 p.m. at Leibel Field.
