Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating an incident that saw one person suffer life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle. Emergency services responded to a report of a serious pedestrian collision around 4:20 p.m. Thursday on Line 34 between Road 104 and Road 106, east of Shakespeare. Officers arrived on scene and found a 65-year-old Kitchener man who had been struck by a vehicle that drove through a road closure barricade, which was being used to divert traffic away following an earlier collision. The victim was taken to a Stratford hospital for treatment. The scene remains closed to traffic, with drivers being urged to find an alternative route. “Further updates to this ongoing investigation will be provided when available,” police said in a media release. Another driver blows by barricade OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk confirmed in a social media post just after 11 p.m. Thursday that another driver drove through a police barricade when responding to the incident. He said no injuries were reported. “Drivers need to slow down and pay attention, so these unnecessary preventable collisions are avoided,” Sanchuk said. “Driving’s a privilege, not a right. Each and every time you get behind that wheel, always make sure that you put your safety as a priority and always pay attention to your surroundings.” Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision or has home security, doorbell, or dashcam footage to call 1-888-310-1122.
