A quirky porch trend is bringing some fun to one Regina neighbourhood, where residents are dressing up porch geese and turning them into a seasonal conversation piece. Michelle Tremblay, co-owner at TWB Home Décor, says the demand has stayed strong, with 80 geese arriving at the store recently and more shipments expected in the coming weeks. “It’s just been a really fun trend. People love to come in and check out the geese,” she said. “I think this is just whimsical and fun, and we can be creative with their outfits.” The trend in Regina dates back more than two decades, when Val Stacyszyn said she got interviewed by CTV News Regina’s Wayne Mantyka in 2003. “Wayne started it. How many years? Twenty some years ago. And now it’s caught on,” Stacyszyn said. Stacyszyn had first spotted the ornamental geese while on a trip to eastern Canada, then brought one home to Regina. Stacyszyn said the decorations have become a familiar sight for people walking by, often sparking comments about the latest outfits. “People walking by will always comment about the geese, what outfit they’re wearing,” she said. “It’s got some positive impact on people and they enjoy it. And that brings me happiness.” Neighbours say the trend has also become part of the area’s community feel. “My daughter’s a bit obsessed with it,” said Nicole Kachmarski, whose family lives nearby. “She did some research about the origins of the porch geese. Thought it was adorable.” Tammy Puetz said the idea has caught on among neighbours, who enjoy swapping out the geese’s outfits and watching the latest additions. “We’ve all kind of got into the groove and it’s kind of fun to watch the new clothes that everybody puts on their goose,” Puetz said. “I think it’s just a cute little fun thing that we have with our neighbours.”
