Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is the first candidate nominated for re-election in 2028.

Saskatchewan’s premier is the first candidate nominated for the 2028 election, Scott Moe’s party confirmed.

Despite the election being more than two years away, the Saskatchewan Party is getting ahead of the process, acclaiming Moe as its candidate in the Rosthern-Shellbrook constituency the premier has held since 2011.

“Thank you to my friends and neighbours in my home constituency. I am honoured to be the Saskatchewan Party candidate for the fifth consecutive election in Rosthern-Shellbrook and I am looking forward to leading the Saskatchewan Party into the next election,” Moe said in a news release.

Moe added the Saskatchewan Party is looking to provide “strong, steady leadership at a very turbulent time” and is looking forward to earning another mandate from Saskatchewan voters.

“We will be building a strong team to win in 2028, starting by nominating candidates this spring,” Moe said.

Nominations are scheduled to continue throughout 2026.

The premier had previously affirmed his intention to stay on as party leader in November, heading into the Saskatchewan Party convention.

Moe is Saskatchewan’s 15th premier. After first being elected as an MLA in 2011, he served as environment minister, and minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Water Corporation and the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency before becoming premier in 2018, following Brad Wall’s retirement from politics.

As premier, Moe has led the Saskatchewan Party through two successful elections in 2020 and 2024, but the Saskatchewan Party fell from 42 seats to 34 by the end of election night 2024, driven by a New Democratic Party takeover of all but one constituency in Saskatchewan’s two largest cities.

If re-elected in 2028, the Saskatchewan Party would become Saskatchewan’s longest serving government of all time, surpassing the 24 years set by the Liberals who governed the province in its early years.
