Macklin Celebrini’s hockey resume continues to grow—after being named the youngest captain in San Jose Sharks history at just 20 years old on Friday. The North Vancouver, B.C., product is coming off an impressive season, collecting 115 points in 82 games with the Sharks and 14 points in 10 games with Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. In July, he signed the largest contract for a forward in NHL history. Video shared by the Sharks Friday shows retired captain Joe Thornton presenting Celebrini with a jersey adorned with the captain’s C at a morning meeting. General manager Mike Grier called it “a well-deserved honour” after congratulating his new captain. Celebrini is the eleventh captain in Sharks history, succeeding Logan Couture, who was forced to retire in 2025 due to injury. The Sharks drafted their new captain first overall in 2024, and his sophomore 2025-26 season is already the highest-scoring campaign in team history. The team announced an afternoon press conference to formally introduce their new captain as well.
