The first in a series of storms coming to Metro Vancouver is expected to bring heavy rain to parts of the region, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. The forecasting agency’s yellow warning said rainfall will begin after midnight and persist through Friday evening, bringing up to 80 millimteres of precipitation at higher elevations. The North Shore, Coquitlam and Howe Sound are expected to see the most rain. “This is the first storm in a series of wet and windy weather ahead,” the warning said. “Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced at times. Some property damage is possible.” B.C.’s River Forecast centre has issued a high streamflow advisory saying a trio of atmospheric rivers are expected to hit the South Coast in the coming days. “Rivers are expected to rise rapidly in response to rainfall, with peak flows from the first storm expected on Friday,” the warning said. “Rivers may experience short reprieves in levels in between storms, however potential for high flows should be expected throughout the remainder of the week, through the weekend, and into next week.” The public is urged to stay clear of fast-moving water and to keep storm drains clear to help prevent flooding.
