Bear Warning issued for Calgary’s Fish Creek Provincial Park

A bear warning has been issued for a popular Calgary park.

Alberta Parks issued the bear warning for Fish Creek Provincial Park on Friday, including Bebo Grove day use area, Shannon Terrace day use area and Votier’s Flats day use area.

It comes amid several reports and sightings of a black bear in the park during daylight/peak hours.

“Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered at any time,” states the warning.

To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear, Alberta Parks recommends:

• Making plenty of noise and traveling in groups;
• Being aware of your surroundings;
• Keeping your pet on a leash;
• Carrying bear spray and making sure it’s easily accessible;
• Securing attractants like food, garbage, pet food and any scented items in hard-sided vehicles or bear-proof lockers.
